Nancy Oswald is ACVB’s 2013 chairman of the board of directors. Along with her business partners, Oswald co-owns and operates Sizzling Steak Concepts, the largest Ruth’s Chris franchise in the world.
Oswald has been involved with ACVB in several capacities since she joined as a member in 1998. She was recognized as ACVB’s Volunteer of the Year in 2005, became a member of the board of directors in 1993 and joined the executive committee in 2008. Most recently, she served as chair of ACVB’s restaurant committee. In 2011, Atlanta’s hospitality industry recognized Oswald by inducting her into the Atlanta Hospitality Hall of Fame.
Her passion for the restaurant industry began at the award-winning Commander’s Palace in New Orleans where she oversaw the restaurant’s sales and marketing department and managed the company’s in-house advertising agency. She later worked for Atlanta’s Liberty House Restaurant Corporation, directing the advertising, public relations and promotional strategies for the company’s four restaurant concepts, which included iconic Atlanta restaurants such as Bone’s Restaurant and the OK Cafe.
In 1990, Nancy and her husband, Mark Oswald, joined forces with the Brooks brothers as owners of the Ruth’s Chris restaurant in Buckhead. In just over 20 years, the franchise has grown to include four Atlanta locations, two in Alabama, three in South Carolina and two additional restaurants currently in development in Chattanooga, TN and Charleston, SC.
Oswald puts to work her 30 years of restaurant experience, a B.A. in communications from the University of Virginia and a Doctorate of Foodservice (DFS) from the North American Association of Food and Equipment Manufacturers to oversee the marketing, advertising and public relations for the franchise. Ruth’s Chris Steak House founder, Ruth Fertel, believed in serving the highest quality food with exceptional service in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Oswalds’ dedication to this vision, coupled with her sales and marketing expertise, has played an integral role in the success of Sizzling Steaks Concepts.
Oswald is a franchise representative of the Ruth’s Chris Steak House National Advertising Council. With a history of community and industry involvment, her previous board positions have included Atlanta’s Schenck School and the Georgia Restaurant Association (GRA), which she chaired in 2006.
The Oswalds have been the recipients of numerous awards including Ruth’s Hospitality Group’s highest honor, the 2008 Ruth U. Fertel Award, presented to individuals who most exemplify the founder’s legacy of service, hospitality and commitment to the brand. In 2010, the Oswalds were presented with GRA’s GRACE Lifetime Achievement Award.
Oswald currently resides in Atlanta with her husband, Mark. She has two adult children who both live in Atlanta.
