Q & A with Jen Hidinger-Kendrick
New things are brewing with Staplehouse’s menu, so we sat down with Jen Hidinger-Kendrick to get the deets and see how their new menu will affect the diners’ experience, quality of life for their staff and impact for the Giving Kitchen.
Q. What spawned the decision for Staplehouse to revert to a tasting menu format?
A. We believe Atlanta is ready for this, now more than ever! Offering a tasting menu full-time really brings us back to our roots and will allow us to provide the best experience possible for our guests and for our team.
Q. A follow-up question everyone’s asking... how will the Staplehouse menu change affect Paper Crane Lounge?
A. We are really excited about the changes and growth for Paper Crane Lounge. Starting April 2018, we will introduce a limited snack menu in addition to our intimate, creative beverage menu, and we will continue to offer seating on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q. How will the tasting menu impact the Staplehouse staff?
A. Quality of life, the well-being of our entire staff, is extremely important to us. A tasting menu offers more control over all aspects of service and thus provides us the opportunity to offer a more balanced work-life for our entire team. Also, starting in April 2018, we are updating our hours to reflect a Tuesday through Saturday schedule where we will be open for dinner, and we will be closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Q. Staplehouse is a for-profit subsidiary for the Giving Kitchen, so we know that weighed in on your decision to move forward with the tasting menu. Can you tell us how it will benefit GK and in turn more restaurant workers throughout GA?
A. Our primary focus is always how Staplehouse can shed light on the mission of the Giving Kitchen. We believe our evolution is a direct reflection of the organization’s growth and dedication to excellence. We are honored to announce that Staplehouse was able to support the Giving Kitchen in a meaningful financial way in 2017. Through our unique donation platforms, we were able to donate $42,309 to GK last year! The tasting menu will help us better control our costs to ensure that we're able to facilitate an impactful contribution every year.
Q. What are you most looking forward to when April 1 arrives at Staplehouse?
A. Within the food and beverage world, I believe, we hope to inspire and be inspired. That inspiration ultimately drives our creativity, and at the end of the day, being happy with who we are and what we do is the purest way we can share who we really are. We are all excited about the evolution of Staplehouse and look forward to sharing what we do best with our ever-supportive city and beyond.
Q. Last but not least, one of the questions we’re asked most often about Staplehouse, how can you go about getting a reservation to try out the new tasting menu?
A. We release reservations ONLINE ONLY on the second Friday of every month at 12pm for the next calendar month! Our April 2018 calendar is now open, and only a few tables remain available. For more information please visit staplehouse.com!
