Compassion in our industry: Telsheda's Story of Community Support
In the bustling food service industry where every moment for hospitality counts, it's the unseen personal stories of its workers that move us the most. Telsheda, a cashier with 13 years on and off in the industry, finds joy in providing stellar customer service.
"I started working in the fast food industry for financial instability now it's more because I just like customer service and it aids me in financial stability."
Today, we're sharing her testimony on how community support, specifically from Giving Kitchen, provided vital assistance during a time of unexpected crisis.
A Mother's Resolve Meets a Helping Hand
A hernia, the aftermath of bringing two sets of twins into the world, challenged Telsheda beyond the rigors of her job. In December of 2023, what started as a typical workday took a painful turn, leading to emergency surgery and a weeklong hospital stay. With six children at home, all under the age of three, Telsheda was unable to work, fostering a need that transcended medical recovery—financial support to keep her family afloat.
Giving Kitchen stepped in, transforming anxiety into assurance. Giving Kitchen’s case manager’s quick response meant that Telsheda's focus could shift from the mounting bills to healing and caring for her family.
Giving Kitchen's Support Through Her Healing
Telsheda's experience with Giving Kitchen's application process was characterized by simplicity and a smooth interaction with a compassionate case manager. The financial assistance provided was more than just monetary—it was a gesture of solidarity and care from the community.
She received two months' rent and utility bill coverage, a relief that echoed deeply among her loved ones. Her children could remain in their home, brightening what could've been a very dark holiday season.
Looking Towards a Brighter Future
Now back at work with some limitations, Telsheda is a testament to resilience. The help she received has laid the foundations for her to rebuild and continue to support her family as she heals both physically and financially. To those hesitant to seek help, Telsheda’s advice is clear: trust in the support that lies within reach.
"Giving kitchen has made it where I don't get evicted from my home where my lights aren't turned out and where are my kids have a safe place to stay so I would say that impacted my children because without our home will be homeless because we have nowhere else to go."
An Ongoing Journey: The Essence of Giving Kitchen
In Telsheda's words, "Giving Kitchen gives hope and hard times for family and individuals who need it." It's a simple, yet powerful reminder of the purpose that drives Giving Kitchen — Building a food service community that meets each crisis with compassion and care.
