Tennessean: Group supporting restaurant workers expands across the South

Giving Kitchen, based in Atlanta, supports restaurant and food service workers across Georgia when they face a crisis. Since it was founded in 2013, Giving Kitchen has distributed $4.3 million in financial assistance to pay rent, utilities or funeral expenses. It has connected more than 4,000 workers to local resources, from mental health counselors to doctors offering a pro bono hip replacement.

Giving Kitchen now plans to expand across the South. By August, the group will be established and accepting requests for help in Nashville. In the coming years, Giving Kitchen will move into North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama.
